UCSF ChimeraX is a next-generation molecular visualization and analysis program developed by the University of California, San Francisco. As the successor to UCSF Chimera, it delivers high-performance 3D graphics for exploring atomic structures, cryo-EM and tomography density maps, and trajectories from molecular simulations. ChimeraX combines an intuitive interface with a powerful command language and Python-based extensibility for reproducible workflows and automation. It integrates with major structural biology resources such as the PDB, EMDB, and the AlphaFold Database to fetch data on demand, and it supports map fitting, segmentation, and the creation of publication-quality images and movies. With cross-platform support and optional virtual reality visualization, ChimeraX is a versatile tool for researchers, educators, and developers in structural biology, biophysics, and related fields.
